HOUSE IN NORDFRIESLAND
Organiser Private Type Single Family House Procurement Type Private Study Location Halebuell, Nordfriesland, DE Jahr 2012
Sites that are located directly by the sea are rare in the North german state of Nordfriesland. The "House in Nordfriesland" project was a concept study precisely in such a place. The design of the single family detached house makes use of this position and enhances the living experience by rotating key living spaces towards the sea, enhancing the experience by great panoramic windows.
Zwei Volumen
The 2-storey building combines two rectangular volumes, the Master bedroom cantilivers slightly at the top level. This move generates useable spaces, such as a covered outdoor space at ground level and balconies at the upper floor. The two volumes are furthermore contrasting in their materiality, creating a diverse external envelope.
Internal Functionality
Internally the house offers direct access to the kitchen, the garden facing living room and a room that could be used for a child. At the upper floor more rooms join the Master bedroom that has a grand sea facing panoramic window. Withing the middle axis of the house a bathroom and the stair face each other. The short side of the stair is put in a 90 degree angle to the long side of the house. Space efficiently the stair sets slighly off the main footprint and allows for the use of generous amounts of natural light in the corridor spaces.
External wall and Roof
The material brick has been used for centuries in Nordfriesland and is still indeed a great building substance in current days. In our design we have proposed that the majority of the external wall is made of brick, only contrasting with a bright materiality of the upper floor volume that shifts slightly off. The roof is designed to use half of its surface for photovoltaics and another half for green roof. KS
